CRIMINAL LAW

Felonies:

Felony charges can carry serious consequences, including lengthy incarceration, substantial fines, restrictions on certain rights, and long-term effects on employment, housing, and family life. We provide strategic criminal defense from the earliest stages of an investigation through resolution, hearings, or trial.

· Defense of violent and non-violent felony charges

· Drug-related felony offenses

· Theft, burglary, robbery, fraud, and property-related offenses

· Assault, domestic violence, and other person-related offenses

· Weapons-related felony allegations

· Probation violations and revocation proceedings

· Pre-filing investigations and representation before formal charges are filed

· Bond, preliminary hearing, motion, plea-negotiation, and trial representation

· Review of law-enforcement conduct, witness statements, digital evidence, and forensic evidence

· Sentencing advocacy and post-conviction options when applicable

DUI:

A DUI arrest can affect a person’s driver’s license, employment, insurance, finances, and freedom. DUI cases may involve both criminal-court proceedings and separate driver-license consequences, making prompt legal review especially important.

· DUI and alcohol-related driving charges

· Drug-related DUI allegations, including prescription and controlled substances

· First-offense and repeat-offense DUI defense

· Felony DUI allegations when applicable

· Breath-test and blood-test issues

· Field sobriety testing and roadside investigation review

· Traffic-stop, detention, arrest, and constitutional-issue analysis

· Driver-license and administrative consequences connected to a DUI arrest

· Negotiation, motion practice, trial preparation, and sentencing advocacy

· Review of available diversion, treatment, or alternative-resolution options when eligible

Misdemeanors:

Misdemeanor charges are less severe than felonies, but they can still lead to jail, fines, probation, court costs, and a criminal record. We help clients evaluate the evidence, understand possible outcomes, and build a defense tailored to the specific allegation.

· Assault and battery allegations

· Domestic-related misdemeanor charges

· Petty theft, shoplifting, and property offenses

· Drug and paraphernalia charges

· Public intoxication and disorderly-conduct allegations

· Trespass and vandalism-related offenses

· Driving and traffic-related criminal offenses

· Probation violations and compliance matters

· Negotiated resolutions, deferred or suspended sentencing issues, and trial defense

· Expungement review after resolution when legally available

Juvenile:

Juvenile cases require a defense strategy that considers both the immediate allegations and the young person’s education, family, treatment needs, record, and future. We work with families to navigate the juvenile-court process and protect the child’s legal interests.

· Juvenile delinquency allegations

· School-related criminal allegations

· Assault, theft, drug, property, and other juvenile offenses

· Detention and release hearings

· Court appearances, adjudication hearings, and disposition proceedings

· Probation and supervision issues

· Diversion and alternative-resolution options when available

· Coordination with parents, guardians, treatment providers, and other appropriate professionals

· Record-sealing or expungement review when legally available

· Defense in proceedings involving potential transfer or treatment as an adult when applicable

Municipal:

Municipal-court cases can involve traffic offenses, ordinance violations, and other allegations prosecuted by a city. Although these matters may appear minor, unresolved municipal charges can create warrants, fines, license problems, and other complications.

· Municipal traffic offenses

· Driving-related citations and criminal municipal charges

· Public intoxication and disorderly-conduct allegations

· Trespass, nuisance, and local ordinance violations

· Municipal assault or domestic-related allegations when filed in city court

· Failure-to-appear and warrant matters

· Negotiations with municipal prosecutors

· Motions, hearings, and trial representation

· Compliance, payment, and sentencing issues

· Review of options for resolving older or outstanding municipal cases

Protective Order Violations:

An allegation that a protective order has been violated can result in criminal charges and may also affect related divorce, custody, employment, or firearm matters. We provide defense focused on the exact language of the order, the alleged conduct, the evidence, and the circumstances surrounding the accusation.

· Defense of alleged contact or communication violations

· Alleged in-person, electronic, telephone, social-media, or third-party contact

· Alleged violations involving residences, workplaces, schools, or protected locations

· Review of the protective order and its specific restrictions

· Analysis of texts, calls, social-media records, video, witnesses, and other evidence

· Bond and initial-appearance representation when criminal charges are filed

· Defense of repeat or enhanced violation allegations when applicable

· Coordination with related family-law or protective-order proceedings

· Negotiation, motion practice, and trial preparation

· Advice regarding compliance with existing court orders while the criminal case is pending

Criminal Expungement:

A criminal record can continue to affect employment, housing, professional opportunities, and reputation long after a case is over. Oklahoma law provides several forms of record-clearing relief for qualifying individuals, but eligibility depends on the type of case, disposition, criminal history, and other statutory requirements.

· Eligibility review for Oklahoma criminal-record expungement

· Review of arrests, dismissed cases, deferred sentences, convictions, and prior criminal history

· Preparation and filing of expungement petitions

· Notice to required agencies and parties

· Representation at contested or uncontested expungement hearings

· Coordination with courts, law-enforcement agencies, and record repositories as required

· Review of whether multiple cases or counties affect eligibility

· Explanation of what an expungement can and cannot remove from public view

· Post-order follow-up concerning record updates when appropriate

· Assessment of related pardon or post-conviction options when expungement is not presently available

Commutation and Early Parole:

For individuals serving criminal sentences, post-sentencing relief may include parole or a request for commutation when the person meets applicable requirements. These matters involve specialized procedures and careful preparation of the applicant’s history, rehabilitation, institutional record, support system, and reentry plan.

· Initial review of parole or commutation eligibility and procedural posture

· Preparation and organization of applications and supporting materials

· Collection of rehabilitation, treatment, education, employment, and institutional records

· Development of release, housing, employment, and community-support plans

· Preparation of character letters and other appropriate supporting documentation

· Identification and presentation of mitigating circumstances

· Preparation for Pardon and Parole Board proceedings when applicable

· Advocacy concerning sentence reduction or release recommendations when legally available

· Review of prior denials and potential future application options

· Coordination with family members and approved support persons during the application process

Facing a criminal accusation can be overwhelming, but you do not have to navigate the process without legal guidance. Our firm evaluates the facts, the evidence, and the law surrounding each case and works to build a defense strategy focused on protecting our client’s rights, freedom, and future.

Not every legal matter fits neatly into one category—and you should not have to figure out where to turn on your own.

If your legal issue is not listed among our primary practice areas, we still encourage you to contact The Law Dawc. Our firm works with a network of collaborating attorneys in additional areas of law, allowing us to help connect clients with trusted legal professionals when a matter falls outside our core practice.

When appropriate, we may consult with or refer your matter to an attorney whose experience is better suited to your specific legal needs. Our goal is simple: help you find the right legal path forward—even when that path involves another trusted attorney.

If we can help, we will. If your matter requires a different area of legal experience, we will do our best to help connect you with someone who can.
